Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or net. The game is played on a rectangular court, divided into two main areas: the frontcourt and the backcourt. Points can be scored in several ways: by shooting the ball through the hoop from different distances, with three-point shots awarded for baskets made beyond a specific distance from the hoop, and two-point shots for those made from inside that range.

Players advance the ball toward the basket by dribbling (bouncing the ball while running) or passing it to teammates. Key aspects of the game include dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense. The objective is to outscore the opponent within a set time frame, typically divided into quarters. Basketball is a dynamic and fast-paced sport that emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and a combination of skills including agility, coordination, and endurance.

Originating in the late 19th century, basketball has grown into one of the most popular and widely played sports globally, with professional leagues, such as the NBA (National Basketball Association), achieving significant fame and influence.
